Having seen the varied postings regarding this subject over quite a period of time and having my own doubts as to not only the merit but also the implementation all was revealed during the Radio 702 interview with the president of the KUSA on the Petcare Line – he stated that the KUSA is purely a registry for pedigree dogs and does not have the right of inspection – herewith endeth the scheme.

Also most interested to hear his profound scientific statement that HD is only a problem that has arisen about 20 years ago and that a major cause is playing ball with a young puppy. Trust that Dr Willis and the veterinary profession have taken note.

Dear Sir / Madam,

Around June 2010, I was looking for a registered Male Rottweiler pup & registered Male Fox terrier pup.

I was searching on the net for breeders & I came across Kubrat Rottweilers, I sent them a mail saying that I am looking for a Rottweiler pup & if they know of anyone who has Foxie pup, i  got a reply from Martin Odabachian of Kubrat Neapolitan Mastiff & Kubrat Rottweilers saying that he has a rottie for R6000 & he can get the Foxie for R3500, I told him its fine send me the banking details so that I can transfer all the money which is R9500, I then transferred the money on 30 June 2010.

After I had made the payment for the pups on 30 June 2010, Martin Odabachian sent me a mail on  7 July 2010 saying that it’s better he sends the pups by air than for me to collect them, he said I should send him another R3500 to fly the pups, luckily I did not agree, I told him I will come myself to collect them, maybe he was not going to send them or send something else.

After sending him the money I followed him up when I should come & collect the pups & everytime Martin Odabachian said he is very busy, sometimes he told me he's in Cape Town or Durban, I started suspecting something is wrong, then I called him on 21 October around 12:00 just before lunch & I asked him if he is in JHB, he said yes but he'll be leaving again tomorrow for Cape Town, I told him don’t worry I am coming now, he was surprised he says will I make it, I said yes it only takes 4 hours, then he didn’t have anything to say, I had left at 2pm & arrived there at 6pm & when I arrived at his house he tells me he sold the Rottie pup because somebody wanted it seriously.

How can he sell something which is sold & paid for fully, I did not even pay a deposit I paid in full, then he tells me that the Foxie pup got lost. Then he wanted to give me another Rottie pup & Dachshund (not even registered) I don’t know where he got them from, I told him no I want my money back & he agreed.

My cousin was with me & my cousin can be my witness.

Martin Odabachian never called me even once after he received the money in his account, but when he wanted the money he was calling me so many times.

Martin Odabachian thought that I cannot do anything as I am in Botswana, but I am not going to leave him otherwise he will do this to someone else.

Martin Odabachian says he won’t cheat me as he says he is a very big man, I told him I want my money back, he says he does not carry cash & he says he will send it in my account, I told him write me a cheque so that I can cash he did not agree, I asked him when will I have my money in my account he says in 1 weeks time, every time I followed him up he would say he is  out or he is on Holiday making excuses everytime  until today 13 March 2012 he has not sent it.

He doesn’t answer my calls, he doesn’t reply my mails but when he wanted the money he was answering & replying immediately, his wife is also the same(Maria) she doesn’t answer.

When I was searching his website it looked so good I thought he is the best, he was also a very sweet talk. He had also told me he got the best Rottweilers in South Africa & I got convinced, I asked him has he got both parents of the pups he said yes, when I got there I didn’t see the Mother & I asked him where is she, Martin Odabachian says I have another farm nearby that’s where she is, I told him lets go & see, he says he's busy preparing for Cape Town.

I then followed up with him around November, then he sent me a mail on 23 November 2010 saying that he has sent the money in my account only that I came to find out he was lying, he even sent me a proof of payment with wrong account number, I don’t even know if that proof of payment was fake or real, i think he made it himself. Then I asked him I didn’t get the money he said it went to another account & he will sort it out.

I followed him up again and got a mail from him on 01 December 2010 he said he had talked to the bank manager & it will be done in a few days, until now I got nothing.

I sent him a mail saying that does he want to pay or not so that I could take action, he then replied on 26 January 2011 saying he has a problem sending money to Botswana & he got pups which will be ready in 3 weeks, I told him I am not interested I have already paid for 2 Rottweiler Pups to Bernardien of Diliemiers Rottweilers on the first week of December 2010 & due for collection in January which I have already done.

How can he have a problem sending me money when I have send him money from here.

Martin Odabachian has not only cheated me the following have been cheated also:
Julie Wolmarans (julie@georgiou.co.za)
Doug Dumbrill (djdumbrill@hotmail.com)

Mr. Dawn of KUSA is also aware of Martin Odabachian.

Martin Odabachian thinks he can cheat me he can forget it luckily I have all his mails as proof.

The other thing I have noticed is that when he wanted to sell me the pups he told me the tails are docked, being KUSA registered isn’t it illegal to dock tails, I don’t know how he does that.

Could you give me suggestions as to what to do to get the money, I was thinking of going to Joburg & reporting him to the police also.

I didn’t think he would cheat me, he is not even professional at all.

They have so many emails their e-mail are: kubrat@neapolitanmastiff.co.za ,
info@kubratrottweiler.co.za , kubratneapolitans@yahoo.com , neapolitan55@hotmail.com

Address: 419 Valley Rd, North Riding near Northgate Mcdonalds / Northgate Shopping Centre

22 James Rd Olivedale

Their names are Martin Odabachian & Maria Odabachian.

I mean this is not the first time I am buying pups or other things from South Africa, I have done so many transactions for different things & I never got cheated.

I have also attached the proof of payment I had sent to Martin Odabachian.

PLEASE FORWARD THIS E-MAIL TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS & FAMILY SO THAT THEY ARE AWARE & DON’T GET CHEATED.

Kindest Regards

To Jazzy Chana

Have you officially complained to KUSA about your problem and provided proof of you allegations? If so, they should take action and the breeder should be sanctioned and some official taken - like the breeder being banned from KUSA. Of course that does not stop them from breeding unregistered stock. It is always advisable to ask for references and also to check with the registration body in the country you buy from.

In South Africa there is also a new 'Consumer Protection Act' which should give you protection and the means to act. You can get your money back using the protection the Act gives. Suggest you explore that avenue.

Small clarification. It is not illegal to dock tails in South Africa despite the huge amount of misinformation being put out.

I'm really sorry that Jazzy Chana also seems to have been bamboozled by these Odabachian characters. If what I've heard is true, they've apparently been doing this to people for the last four years or so. It's an obscure 'kennel' owned by people who belong to no Club and some of the pics on their website were 'lifted' from the websites of 'real' breeders. Problem is, neither KUSA nor the Rottweiler Breed Council can prosecute these cats on behalf of the victims, as a) it is not a KUSA function to do so and b) this is best dealt with under Mercantile Law and it's really a matter of 'Let the Buyer Beware. '  This is best left to people in the legal profession.  Funny how people would do their homework when buying a house or a car, but often you hear of someone buying a dog 'sight unseen' (through the Internet nogal) and then rely on a complete stranger to honour the transaction by shipping the puppy to them by air or whatnot. Sometimes I think it’s as easy to take money off people as it is to take sweets off children.

The task to have those bums prosecuted rests with the victim - with no one else. That should be easy enough, given their known whereabouts. All that is needed is for the victim to dig deep in his/her pocket and employ a good lawyer, or alternatively, hire a 'hit man'!  Jokes aside, it's people like those who give dogdom a bad name . .

Sadly Martin Odabachian has been involved in this type of behaviour for many, many years now. Back in 2007 he took pictures of one of my Boerboel bitches at a KUSA champ show, posted her pics on his website claiming she was his and that she has had a litter of puppies, he even gave her a new name!! He called his "kennel" MS Boerboels. He proceeded to advertise the puppies (which didn't exist) and he was selling them for exuberant amounts. So it seems as if this kind of behaviour is common practice to Mr. Odabachian.

Regarding his Neo's that he breeds, if he really is breeding them I don't know, as he might be claiming the same as he did with my Boerboel. He says that Neo's should be aggressive dogs and aggro cos that is what a REAL Neo temperament is supposed to be. So perhaps just a warning to families with little ones that have bought a Neo from him, or are planning to get a Neo from him.

Martin Odabachian is a con artist and his antics have been known in recognized Rottweiler circles for some time. Those who have been swindled by this individual or his spouse should seek legal counsel against their fraudulent actions as previously indicated.

For the record, although KUSA has knowledge of Martin Odabachain as a Neopolitan Mastiff breeder, he has not registered a single litter of Rottweiler puppies with our kennel club to date. His website www.kubratrottweiler.co.za displays the FCI logo to try gain some international credibility but Martin Odabachian is a thief and he's stealing money from the public and damaging other South African breeders' reputations in the process. There are some KUSA registered Rottweilers in his possession but again this fraudster has no qualms in changing their names for advertising purposes. There aren't any Rottweilers recorded with the Kubrat affix so "Kubrat Polly" and others have different registered names with KUSA. This misrepresentation speaks volumes and statements on his website like "we are now pleased to accept all major credit cards" and "now taking deposits for 2012 breedings" means that despite all the blatant lies and stealing, it's business as usual in the Odabachian household.

In response to the article: Why Crufts should bother us.

There are some new health issues relating to the Bullmastiff: they are of such a nature that they are being discussed at international level.

PAST: The Dutch Kennel Club held a seminar on the 17 January 2010 for Show Judges which related to Breed Specifications. 46 Breeds were targeted of which the Bullmastiff, Bulldog and (Old English) Mastiff were included.

These BSI or Breed Specific Instructions were distributed to all the FCI affiliates and  in a nut shell,  Judges have been instructed not to award dogs that show deviations or   “ exaggerated breed characteristics which can lead to and result in health, behaviour or movement problems…..and therefore never be qualified for a Championship prize or BOB”

Bullmastiff: frequent problems in this breed are- breathing problems which could result from pinched nostrils and /or overly short muzzles and insufficient room in throat cavities

Eye problems caused by an excessive amount of skin

Incorrect movement caused by anatomical malformation such as too high at rear and a very steep croup

Particular attention must therefore be paid to breathing, correct length of muzzle and eyes not set in an excessive amount of loose skin on the head. Attention must be paid to sound movement

Refer Breed Specific Instruction Document sent out by the Dutch Kennel Club and distributed by KUSA June 2011 to all members of the Federal Council and the National Judges Sub-Committee. Copy available on request.

PRESENT: Fast track to Crufts 2012 where the Bulldog (40% of the original Bullmastiff) and the Pekinese fail the Crufts veterinarian checks and were therefore withdrawn and unable to participate for the BOB competitions.

There were 15 high profile breeds selected for this procedure, of which the Bulldog and Mastiff were once again featured.

“The veterinary checks were introduced to ensure that dogs with exaggerated features do not win prizes”

Published on Crufts presented by the Kennel Club (http://www.crufts.org.uk)

The Bullmastiff Breed Standard, which is available on the KUSA website, is country of origin – Britain – which is the policy that the FCI (Federation Cynologique Internationale or World Canine Organization) subscribe to. The KUSA as we all know is a member of the FCI.

The Judges have received their orders!  (They are after all, the ‘quality controllers’ of the breed)

Bullmastiff breeders take note! (You are after all, the ‘manufacturers’ of the breed)

I have just watched the Andrew Brace video. Can some one please explain to me how these breeders can take umbrage when THEY are seemingly at fault. THEY are the ones breeding and showing dogs with faults so bad that their dogs are being eliminated by the vet checks. Surely they must be aware of their dogs shortcomings. And as far as I understand everyone knew about the vet checks so please ..........

I would go as far to say that we need vet checks here as well for some of the breeds

There are some vicious rumors circulating that - and you know who you are!! - that one of the dog world's most generous benefactors was entertaining judges in his tent in PE.  I just want to insure the dog world that there is no truth to this rumor and its all just vicious skinner from the grudge bearers in our sport.  I had a clear view of the person's tent and no judge entered there ever!

You are playing a very dangerous game people.  Don't cry if you find yourself behind bars for defermation.

I read with amazement the post from “Sick Of Nasty People”, and would be fascinated to know what   you are going to insure the dog world against? Mental incapacity perhaps caused by reading so many spelling mistakes.

I was not at Port Elizabeth and cannot vouch for the veracity of the statements however I find the intimidating nature of the post disturbing.  It appears threatening to sue has become de rigueur.

To avoid possible unpleasantness I decided to investigate what exactly would constitute defamation of character and from what I read it would seem that you would have to utter or publish a statement which would cause actual damage to the person involved.  Hurt feelings or a loss of social standing may not reach the legal definition of damages.  “Opinions are not normally considered defamatory because they are generally seen as outbursts of emotion, with no real substance except to show intense dislike. “

So in the context of SONP’s post, just the fact of Z saying that X entertained Judges in his/her tent would not be sufficient,  Z would have to state that X entertained Judges in his/her tent with the express purpose of bribing them with cakes and canapés and champagne to give their dog  BOB/Group/BIS.

I would value the opinion of any “legal eagles”  who may be able confirm if this is correct,  hopefully this would avoid any of us inadvertently saying the wrong thing and “ spending time behind bars”.

Janet Kay sincerely regrets being unable to undertake her judging appointment at Kaffrarian Hound Championship Show.
A freak accident caused a hospital visit, and extensive medical treatment, Janet is now 'on the mend', but full recovery is proving to be a lengthy business.

While in Pinetown my house was broken into. My dogs where beaten. The dogs are back to them old self again. But they got away with most of my house old good and clothes. I would like to thank the dog world I never realised that doggie people could stand together in a time of need. My kids and I would like to thank each and everyone who helped us rebuild us house back together. The wonderful gifts everyone gave us. A big thank you to the following people who bought most of my house hold goods for me. Iluca Kennels, Picasso Neapolitan Mastiffs, Anton & Dawn, Debbie Snashall Tania Scott. To add to the KUSA rabies warning of 21/06/2012
Perhaps a 'tick box' could be added to the Show Entry Form confirming the dogs dated inoculation as well. Not fool proof I know, as not all exhibitors tell the truth - but then not all Judges look in the dogs mouths either (scary!) - with or without asking the exhibitor to do his bit. Ever checked out to see how many Judges wipe or wash their hands in between dogs? (even more scary)

And then the exhibitor can camouflage a fault in a number of ways but probably the best option because what about dog to Judge to next dog transmission as well.

Hats off to the first Judge to wear latex gloves (oooooooh I can hear the comments ringside) or have the rabies inoculation which comes in three doses for full coverage and is very expensive and with the cost of a Dr's consultation included as well.

Of course the Judges who are vets won't have to worry as they will be covered already.

Will these be for the Judges or KUSA's expense?

This is real scary stuff

Disgusting behavior
Could the people from the Utility ring who handle in the hound ring leave their dirty handling to their own ring, as well as their Circus audience! The behavior this weekend was of low class and really what did you gain? You all disgust everyone around the ring.

Good behavior please!
